Doğru / Yanlış Test 2
Passage
The Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world. It covers most of North Africa, stretching across eleven countries including Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco. The Sahara is about 9.2 million square kilometres in size, which makes it almost as large as the entire United States of America. During the day, temperatures in the Sahara can reach over 50 degrees Celsius. However, at night, the temperature can drop below zero in some areas. This extreme difference between day and night temperatures is one of the most surprising features of the desert. Despite its harsh conditions, the Sahara is not completely empty. About 2.5 million people live in the Sahara, including groups such as the Tuareg and the Berber. These communities have adapted to the extreme climate over thousands of years. They often travel with camels and live in tents that can be moved from place to place. The Sahara also has some surprising features. It contains several mountain ranges, including the Ahaggar Mountains in Algeria, which reach heights of over 2,900 metres. There are also areas of the Sahara that receive enough rainfall to support small lakes and ponds, particularly in the southern region known as the Sahel. In recent decades, the Sahara has been expanding due to climate change and overuse of land at its edges. Scientists estimate that the desert has grown by approximately 10% since 1920. This expansion threatens the farmland and water supplies of communities living near the desert's borders.
