Doğru / Yanlış Test 3
Passage
The Great Wall of China is one of the most impressive architectural achievements in human history. Contrary to popular belief, the wall is not a single continuous structure but rather a series of walls and fortifications built by different dynasties over approximately 2,000 years. The earliest sections were constructed in the 7th century BC, while the most well-known parts were built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The wall stretches across northern China for approximately 21,196 kilometres, according to a comprehensive survey completed in 2012. It was primarily built to protect Chinese states and empires from invasions by nomadic groups from the north. The wall served not only as a military defence but also as a border control system, allowing the regulation of trade along the Silk Road. Despite the common myth, the Great Wall cannot actually be seen from space with the naked eye. This misconception has been repeated in textbooks for decades, but astronauts have confirmed that the wall is too narrow to be visible from orbit without the aid of special instruments. The wall is typically only about 5 to 8 metres wide — much narrower than a motorway, which is also not visible from space. Today, the Great Wall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's most popular tourist attractions. However, about 30% of the wall has disappeared over the centuries due to natural erosion and human activity. The Chinese government has implemented laws to protect the remaining sections, and restoration projects are ongoing. Approximately 10 million people visit the wall each year, making it one of the most visited landmarks in the world.
