Passage

Bees are amazing insects that live in large groups called colonies. A colony can have up to 60,000 bees. There are three types of bees in a colony: the queen, the workers, and the drones. The queen is the largest bee and her job is to lay eggs. She can lay up to 2,000 eggs in one day. Worker bees are all female. They have many different jobs. Some workers collect nectar from flowers to make honey. Others build the honeycomb, clean the hive, or guard the entrance. Worker bees communicate with each other by doing a special dance. This dance tells other bees where to find flowers. Bees are very important for the environment because they help pollinate plants. Without bees, many fruits and vegetables would not grow. Unfortunately, the number of bees around the world is decreasing because of pesticides and loss of habitat. Scientists say we must protect bees to keep our food supply safe.
