The honeybee colony is one of the most organized societies in the animal kingdom. A single colony may contain up to 60,000 bees, each with a specific role. The queen bee is responsible for laying eggs, sometimes producing over 1,500 per day. Worker bees, which are all female, perform tasks such as collecting nectar, building the hive, and protecting the colony from threats. Male bees, called drones, have only one purpose: to mate with a new queen. Once winter arrives, drones are expelled from the hive because they consume resources without contributing to the colony's survival. This strict division of labor allows the colony to function efficiently throughout the year.
