İngilizce Prepositions (Edatlar): In, On, At Kullanım Rehberi

Prepositions (edatlar), İngilizce'de en sık kullanılan ancak en çok karıştırılan kelime gruplarından biridir. Türkçe'de hal ekleriyle (-de, -da, -den) ifade edilen kavramlar, İngilizce'de edatlarla karşılanır. Bu yazıda en önemli edatları detaylıca inceleyeceğiz.

Zaman Edatları (Prepositions of Time)

IN

Uzun zaman dilimleri için kullanılır:

• Aylar: in January, in March
• Yıllar: in 2024, in 1990
• Mevsimler: in summer, in winter
• Günün bölümleri: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening
• Yüzyıllar: in the 21st century

ON

Belirli günler ve tarihler için kullanılır:

• Günler: on Monday, on Friday
• Tarihler: on March 15, on the 1st of January
• Özel günler: on my birthday, on Christmas Day, on New Year's Eve
• Gün + zaman: on Monday morning, on Friday evening

AT

Belirli saatler ve anlar için kullanılır:

• Saatler: at 3 o'clock, at 10:30 AM
• Belirli anlar: at noon, at midnight, at sunrise
• Tatil dönemleri: at Christmas (dönem), at Easter, at the weekend (British English)
• Özel ifadeler: at the moment, at present, at night

Dikkat: "at night" kullanılır ama "in the evening" kullanılır.

Yer Edatları (Prepositions of Place)

IN

Kapalı alan, sınırları belli alan:

• Ülkeler ve şehirler: in Turkey, in Istanbul, in London
• Kapalı alanlar: in the room, in the box, in the car
• Su kütleleri: in the sea, in the river, in the pool
• Kitap/gazete: in the book, in the newspaper

ON

Yüzeyde, üzerinde:

• Yüzeyler: on the table, on the wall, on the floor
• Sokaklar: on Istiklal Street, on the road
• Ulaşım (büyük): on the bus, on the train, on the plane
• Katlar: on the first floor, on the second floor

AT

Belirli bir nokta, konum:

• Belirli noktalar: at the door, at the bus stop, at the corner
• Adresler (numara ile): at 123 Main Street
• Mekanlar (genel): at home, at work, at school, at the airport
• Etkinlikler: at the party, at the concert, at the meeting

Hareket Edatları (Prepositions of Movement)

• to: Bir yere doğru → I'm going to school.
• from: Bir yerden → She comes from Turkey.
• into: İçine doğru → He walked into the room.
• out of: Dışına doğru → She came out of the building.
• through: İçinden geçerek → We drove through the tunnel.
• across: Karşısına → Walk across the bridge.
• along: Boyunca → Walk along the river.
• past: Yanından geçerek → She walked past the shop.

Sık Karıştırılan Edat Kullanımları

• Arrive in (şehir/ülke) vs Arrive at (bina/küçük yer)
  We arrived in Istanbul. / We arrived at the airport.
• In the car ama On the bus/train/plane
  Küçük araçlar: in | Büyük araçlar: on
• At home / At work / At school (article yok)
• In bed (yatakta) ama On the sofa (koltukta)

Sık Yapılan Hatalar

• Hata: I will see you in Monday. → Doğru: I will see you on Monday.
• Hata: She lives at Turkey. → Doğru: She lives in Turkey.
• Hata: I arrived to school. → Doğru: I arrived at school.
• Hata: We went to home. → Doğru: We went home. (home ile to kullanılmaz)
